The Move Forward

Isn't it amazing how technology has changed our lives over the last few years. It's that classic - when I was young - syndrome but it is true. New technology has changed our lives beyond all recognition, in so many aspects. Now you have cars and houses for sale on the internet, something which would have been unthinkable just a few short years ago.

Music is another area which has changed dramatically due to the new technology around now. Within living memory we used to play records (and woe betide you if you left them in the sun!) and to many people their record collection was their pride and joy.

Then we had cassettes, much more portable but equally fragile. At least records are still collectible, but you tend to find the old cassettes in junk and charity shops.

Then came the mini-cassette. Blink and you may have missed those, I certainly did. Now we have CDs, an almost indestructible form of music storage.

But even CDs, although still in wide use are being surpassed by newer, better technology such as MP3 players and iPods. Music has become less of a physical object to cherish and show off to friends and more ethereal, as we download albums or tracks. I wonder what will be the next step in our ever increasing technologically obsessed world?
